Hi there guys
Just needing some advice again, I have a 15.0hh TB mare who is 21.
She had been turned away for 4 weeks and is now coming back into work, however after riding her yesterday I think re considering her feed is in serious order! She was bucking, rearing and calling all the way on our hack, a route she normally goes on she was evil, spinning around too there was no way I could calm her, if we turned one way to walk calmly turning, then would turn and try and tank off home. She is normally very good to hack! She was ridden in a snaffle and it was like she had a dead mouth, she does have a disatema and I wondered if that was hurting her, the dentist is coming back out again in the next week to check.
Her feeding regieme was
- 1.5kg healthy hooves
- 0.5kg fast fibre
- 900g Hi Fi lite (as we don't have much grass it was for extra crunch)
- Codlivine Vitamins and Minerals
- Kentucky Joint Liquid
- Immuneplus - I may cut this out as she has been worse since being on it I think.
She used to be on magnatude - I'm not sure if she should go back on it, as i'm a bit skeptical about calmers, but I think our soil is magnesium deficent (south-east kent), but if she had lo cal would this make up for the lack of magnesium?
I think i'm going to change her to - Hi fi lite and Baileys lo cal alongside - 8kg of hay plus also work her alot more where I can. Does anyone else have any ideas for feeding older horses which are batty! Any help much apprieciated!!
