HI all

just had to move to a new yard in a hurry on very clay-laden soil so there's an issue with turn out. We'll have t/o on 2 days out of 3 and in on the third day until the weather improves and the ground dries up. Not ideal, but better than staying where we were (full turnout, but all the rest wasn't working)

so - am thinking that my overweight Welsh C needs something to do that isn't tucking into hay all day on her day in and that oat straw might be an option.

does anyone else use it - if so, how much do you feed and under what circumstances?

many thanks

Years ago we fed oat straw to a very greedy laminitic pony, so he could have more food but wouldn't be consuming so many calories. He still had limited hay and hi-fi (the highlight of his day!) but he pretty much had ad lib straw as he only ate it when he was hungry, instead of eating for the sake of it! x

i gave it pretty much add lib to a very overweight sec d on restricted grazing...worked a treat!

Thanks, all

now all I have to do is find some. None so far in South Shrops. If anyone knows any in the corvedale area, do let me know...

thanks

Used to feed it to the polo ponies in Australia they loved it!
From what I know, the Corve is mostly grass and landed estates?

Try more Wheatland teritory perhaps.

Got some, thank you - delivery tonight or tomorrow....

life is better

pony still hates being in, but at least might not get colic

all we need now is for her to cotton on to the water-drinker instead of her bucket... daren't take the bucket out, but she drains it and then looks miserable instead of working out what to do

sigh

old place was perfect. new owners weren't.
