My 15.2hh TB welsh cross is currently on 1 scoop of light mix and a big double handful of Alpha-A spread over 2 feeds (she also has corn oil, salt and a joint supplement) plus ad lib good quality haylage.

She is a pretty good doer but I want to build a bit more muscle up on her (espeically topline) and I was wondering if I should increase her feed or put her on a conditioning mix or if I should just continue to persevere with the long and low work. She is currently worked everyday, on the walker a couple times a week and competes most weekends.

any thoughts? I don't want her to go through the roof (she is pretty fizzy) but she is def not looking fat at all and could easily hold more condition as long as it was muscle.

Protein is needed for muscle, but its not advisable to feed alot as can cause tying up/fizzines. Perhaps try a balancer such as Lo-cal which has everything there for muscle developement, but shouldnt cause hyperness?

perhaps change from the light mix onto allen&page calm and condition? im having great results with this on my WB, its helping to build his muscle tone, hes lovely and shiney and its not heating.

Difficult to know without seeing some pictures of her but if you are considering changing her feeds I would opt for a cube rather than a mix, you could consider topspec cool conditioning cubes, A&P calm and condition etc.
ETS: it's not really a substitute for the correct work though!

Thanks all, I know it is tricky without a picture!

Well I've been doing lots of correct work (I hope

) but I might have a look at the A&P calm and condition if people recomend it for building muscle without hyperness.

Won't give up the long and low lark though.

mine is now on C&C build up condition following a few months off. She looks really well on it and I think the fact that it is low in starch with no molasses is really good for her too. She's pretty stroppy when she has too much sugar in her!
