feeding question

How long is a piece of string!? Depends on the size of the animal, whether it is a good doer or not and what product you are feeding!

Depends on how big mare aged 7 years old is, how much feeding she needs, what type of work she's in, and what feed you are feeding her

Echo what everyone else has said, one bag of feed would last my 16.2 1 1/2 weeks but would last a 14.2 good doer somewhat longer, it also depends on what feed you are talking about, whether the animal was in hard work or light work, how much forage is in the diet etc etc

she is 1hh and im thinking of puting her on Dodson and horrell safe and sound of course she will have haylage as well and grazing is available very shortly because of snow

[/ QUOTE ] I'm sure that is a typo and she is a little bigger than 1hh!

Why not ring Dodson & Horrell and tell them her size, workload etc. and they will tell you how much is suitable for her. If they say, for example, 1 kg a day, then you know that a 20kg bag will last 20 days.

If she is a good doer, however, you may find that she doesn't need much feed at all in addition to hay/grazing - you may just be able to give her a handful token of something, perhaps with a vit/min supplement if you thinks she needs it.
