feeding seaweed - opinions please

have been looking on internet about seaweed and there are lots of conflicting opinions. some say its brilliant, others say its too high in iodine and not enough of anything else. i can see that it is impossible to get an accurate feed analysis for it and just have to trust what they say it contains, but i'd rather feed my horse something natural for his vits/mins than a synthetic supplement.

I feed Seaweed to my horse and i think it's good.
Yes it is high in Iodine but if you feed as per the label you will not over dose.
You can overdose on Iodine so make sure you read it well.

I feed it for the salt content and the fact it is meant to be good for stomach alcers, as my mare is a wind sucker the chances are she has ulcers, vet has said there is no need to check as she is a brilliant weight and in good condition.

I have since i started feeding it to her noticed she is sucking less. It's not doing her any harm and it's cheap enough.

As for all vits and mins that should all be in a good compound feed. If you are worried about your horse lacking in those then a pasture lick will allow her/him to take on what he needs as and when.

Ours have a little added to their food. Not the recommended amount due to the high iodine content, but just a bit to add some of the vits and mins it contains. Tbh I brought a huge tub before I read up properly on it so shall continue feeding it to use it up! Ours look well on what they get, though wether I could contribute it to the seaweed or not is another thing.

i've been feeding mine on it for a couple of years now and they look well on it - shiny coat and mainly good feet (farrier recommended it) - i however have to be careful as if i use NAF seaweed both horses get itchy legs - stamping and uncomfortable, twitchy etc. I use equimins and have used gold label with no ill effect so what NAF put in i'm not sure!
I feed just under the recommended amount and was considering weaning mine off it to see if i could see a difference :-\

I add seaweed to my mares feed. She looks really well and her coat is incredibly glossy and shiny (even in winter), which it wasn't when I got her. Like a couple of the other posters said, I am careful to add the correct amount and don't necessarily add it daily.
It is difficult to attribute her well being solely to Seaweed, but I do think it benefits her.
It's not expensive and lasts ages, so well worth a try.

I feed it to my cob after reading on here that it helps with itchy horses and its done a fab job stopping him from scracting. Also after reading one of the above post about the horse that wind sucks so does mine so i might try him on it aswell
