Trying to navigate the minefield which is feeding these days. My first youngster for a while arrives in October and I'm reading around and trying to decide what to feed him over the winter. YO has increased the stocking density over the last year so we have less grazing unfortunately, but there's still a fair bit. They will have haylege more or less ad-lib. My oldies just have haylege/grazing/Happy Hoof.
With all the concerns over mixes and starches and sugars, I would prefer to feed straights. He'll be rugged if necessary; unfortunately his breeders want to wean him and deliver him at the same time and can't be persuaded otherwise. So I expect him to lose a little condition at first. I am thinking of a simple combination of unmolassed sugar beet plus Suregrow. Does anyone have any alternative suggestions/advice?
