Feeding straw

Been reading that some of you are topping up your horses hay with straw. Also, read that eating straw can cause colic. Is Oat straw OK. What is best straw to feed?

Oat straw is fine for feeding.

I have fed barley straw mixed with hay when supplies were scarce a few years ago.
