Thought I was going to have a cheap summer with Madam choosing to live out! But no, first season kicked in so have bought some Oestress, and farrier has sold me a hoof supplement too.

Problem now is getting her to eat it!! I bring her in for min of 2hrs at teatime and ride/groom etc and have been giving her a handful of Herbal Quiet Mix with her lo cal balancer - she is only eating half of it and just wants to get back out and is not interested in her tea.

Any suggestions gratefully received (apart from keeping her in at night!!)

I find i have to shut mine in the stable for about an hour (15 minsr before food with NO hay) for him to eat and leave him totally alone. Pain in the backside but its the only way i can get him to eat

Will try that tonight, will take her haylage away. She's behaving like a naughty two year old child at the mo! Pulled her haylage of out of the haybar last night, dumped in on the floor and in her waterbucket, then proceeded to pull her banks down (bed forked up while she is out) and covered her haylage and tea in shavings!!!!!!!

hi
you could try making some horse treats with the supplements in - that way she would just have a treat each day? mind you, maybe a treat a day isnt too wise? errrr you could alternate it?
i know i made a load of horse treats the other year and all of the neds on the yard loved them! (they all got a christmas stocking with them in lol)

Luckily mine is still eating her supplements in a handful of safe & sound. But I have heard, if they are in a powdered form, you can add them to a bit of jam spread on a slice of bread!! Apparently they love it!!

Apart from my little madam does'nt like bread! Strange lil horse!

get an apple, the use an apple correr but don't core right to the bottom. Add the supplement to this hole you have made, then either feed like that or attempt to add cored apple back in hole.

Works a treat

Anyway, schooled tonight, and when I fed her, left her to eat, made sure she had no haylage and she ate nearly all of it, then I hand fed her the last two handfuls.

So night 1 was a success!

If you find any could you PM me or post here...thanks.

I had this last summer feeding oldie joint supplements.

I just made a mash with a small handful of cheapo high fibre nuts. I used to make it up with "marmite tea" to make it extra tempting. Now he is on 1/2 sachet of bute a day I feed that in a marmite sandwich. Helps if they like marmite!
