feeding this years haylage

how long would you leave after having the haylage cut/baled/wrapped before feeding it?

normally i dont use mine for around 5 months but might need to start using it sooner and it was only baled/wrapped on 09/08/09.

I was told that it is 8 weeks before you can start using it.

thanks for that, i was expecting it to be roughly that long - maybe if i ask my farmer hell agree to swap a couple of last years for some of my this year bales to put me on till mines ready

I was told 6 weeks by my contractor and that is what I did last year -= and it was perfect. Lucky this year as I have somethat was made in June and some more made in August so can start on Junes when ever I want

We are feeding this years june made haylage and it is fine, really good stuff and the horses love it

6wks doesnt sound too bad. mine managed to open a bale because they were in that mood, and it was only a few weeks wrapped, no damage to them so maybe it wont be to bad now as its been nearly 5wks now
