He is ridden 5 or 6 times a week, a mix of hacking and flatwork mainly with the occasional jumping session.

He lives out in the day, stabled at night where he has access to adlib haylage.

He is fed twice a day -
AM: 1/2 scoop Hifi, 1/4 scoop nuts, 1/4 scoop quick beet
PM: 1/2 scoop Hifi, 1/4 scoop cool mix, 1/4 nuts

He is regularly wormed (just had the Panacur 5 day thingo last week) and jabs are all up to date.

Thoughts on what to increase / decrease? Thanks! :o

I found putting my pony onto NAF General Purpose supplement put the 'sparkle' back into her- she doesn't get the recommended amount of feed due to being a fatty so was presumably lacking something

Could he be a little anaemic, it's quite common for healthy horses to be like this during the winter; you could try him on Propell (feed supplement)? You could try adding soya oil to his feed, this is a good source of energy as well.

I would always recommend normal sugar beet over quick beet as well, it is much more nutritious.

Good luck!

My top competition mare gets fed oats to give her some spark in the competition ring. However I tried oats on my youngster - had no effect, and tried it with my little arab and he went absolutely mad!

When you mean lacking sparkle what do you mean? Is he yawning alot,
is he lethargic generally or does he keep wanting to slow down the pace ?

You're probably right in thinking the cold weather has slowed him down a bit. I usually just bump up a bit of their feed if they go like that, little by little untill they feel as you want.
