Horse has commuted fracture of P2 and prognosis at start was not good and may still be the case.
She is 5 weeks down the line. On box rest with one danilon a day and extremely comfortable. We have been told at best she will be field sound and arthritis will most definitely develop. My question is. What else can I put into her feed to help keep arthritis away.
She has ad lib hay, healthy tummy, top spec balancer, cor. Oil and speeding beet
Any advice?

To my knowledge you cant prevent arthritis as it is a degenerative condition but if you get her on a decent joint supplement this will certainly help. Research has shown that something with 10,000 to 15,000 mg glucosamine, 2500 to 3500 mg chondroitin and 100 to 200 mg hyaluronic acid will certainly help the condition as will decent shoeing and pain relief in the form of danilon/bute which is what you are already giving her.

Keeping the weight off her as much as you can will also help.

Do you have a link to that research?

OP. I feed boswellia as it has been suggested that it may inhibit arthritis.

My gelding has a tiny bone chip. To help prevent arthiritis my vet said feed either Synoquine or another supplement (can't remember the name!) as all the rest were inferior. People grumble that it's expensive, but I have two 600kg horses on it and I use one big tub every 4 months, so I don't think that's too bad. He has also had great results from cartrophen injections to prevent arthiritis. They aren't cheap and need doing every six months or so.
