Could be coincidence but I have heard of someone whose horse had foot abcesses and someone else whose horse colicked, they have linked it to the turmeric. I heard of a vet who had reservations about it too.
I left the TUG on FB because some people on there were nasty and they are so evangelical I doubt they would even consider the turmeric could be to blame - anyone on there want to stick their head in the noose???

I have been feeding turmeric but I can't say whether it makes a difference or not. I ran out about 2 days ago (I have to make a special trip to an ethnic shop in the city to get it at a reasonable price albeit twice the price of the UK). I have not had any obvious problems but I stopped feeding it to a youngster on box rest as I had read somewhere there was a potential link to stomach ulcers so I didn't want to take any chances.

I am also feeding Cosequin to the same horse so it will be interesting to see if I do see a difference now I've stopped the turmeric.

No heard of any reaction but its possible I would think as every horse etc are different. That Facebook page is interesting but they do think turmeric is the cure for everything and won't hear any different. Iv never tried it but 2 of my friends have and saw no different

My horse has been on it for ages with no ill effects, barefoot and rock crunching throughout. I tried it myself for an injured shoulder and it gave me terrible indigestion, did help with the pain though, so I'm taking the curcumin capsules now with no problems.

I have 2 horses and my dog on it. Have not really seen any improvement in the horses but I think it has helped my dog. he is 13 and has Arthritis along with other problems and I think it has helped him as I have been able to reduce is medication.

I too found the TUG not that friendly and as someone has said they think the stuff is the bees knees.

My 20 yr old arthritic mare has not needed bute in over a year since being put on Tumeric, she is back in light work, I was so impressed, I started using it with great results (arthritis) but I have been getting a lot of heartburn, meds for arthritis can damage the stomach and I think that is what's happened in my case, they do say not to use Tumeric on ulcer prone horses, but to be honest, heartburn is a small price to pay for being able to use my hands again

I had 2 horses get poorly after I started feeding it. They lost lots of weight and had upset guts. I didn't see any improvement in their movement etc - one is arthritic - just weightloss. My vet said she'd seen it before as it can increase acid production. I found the TUG totally biased towards it and unwilling to discuss my situation. I did find anecdotal evidence online of other horses having the same problem. I stopped feeding it and they got better after treatment.
