Need some feeding advice.
My gelding (16.1, rising 7) seems to be a bit empty in the tank when he's being schooled so I'm considering changing his feed.
He's on the grass, although due to the shorter days and having him out to school, probably only for about 5 hours now. He has two feeds of a mug of Allen and Paige ride and relax, a pint jug of speedibeet, few succulents, biotin and garlic. Also, a large full hay net in the morning, and then three from when he comes in until the following morning. He comes up from the grass into a barn and yard with a bed - hence he's never stabled as such.
Work wise, he hacks out for one and a half hours, 3 times a week. This incorporates a lot of serious hills, mostly walk and trot - the occasional canter. He's schooled twice a week - one of those is a lesson - dressage. Lunged once a week for 25 minutes. Has a day off.
He certainly looks in proportion, but I'm just wondering if he needs a higher energy foodstuff. He can be a bit silly at times hacking, although nothing major. He's an Iberian horse. All the usual (back, teeth, saddle) are up to date and fine. Thanks.
