Hi guys,

what do you feed your ponies in their early twenties? Blue is a section C x arab. He always maintains a fairly good weight (drops a little in winter) but last few winters has dropped his condition (he's always been in light work over winter so think just his age :()

what do you feed your chaps? he hasn't reacted well at all to 16 + / vetran mix in the past so that is out

thanks :) x

My Arab x is fed on thunderbrook base mix which she looks great on. Intially it looks expensive but it last such long time that it works out good value. In the thick of winter I will add some grass nuts or fast fibre if she needs it. Other than that she will have ad lib hay. She's a poor doer but this irks well for her

At the moment he is just on happy hoof, garlic and hi fi mollichaff. plus hay when he is in every other day.

thinking about adding just an equivite supplement & also some linseed as he has been a tad stiff of late :(

can you think of anything else ?

Linseed is brilliant. That one of the ingredients in the thunderbrooks. I was feeding as a straight but had tonnes of supp I was adding, it was cheaper for me to go onto tb. I would keep it dead simple and as close to natural as poss. I think a lot of bagged stuff is full of sugar and rubbish these days that the horse finds it difficult to digest. If your horse does well on grass then grass nuts, or hay thn add som fast fibre which is a hay relacer. For joints I feed boswellia and I can honestly tell if she does have it. I get mine from rahiiq.com and it's half the price of anywhere else. I would leave it at that and see how you go.

We feed our veteran on Page & Allen's ' Old Faithful' mix, which is very easy for him to eat and he seems to thrive off it. He gets that in addition to Molichaff, soy oil and Speedibeet, as well as hay. It seems to work, he looks like a bull at the moment - hoping he keeps it on over the winter...

I feed my 21yo on D&H build up mix and Alpha-A Oil during the winter. The build up mix is a high calorie feed which really helps him keep his weight
