Basically do you?

If your horse is out in a field 24/7 a good weight well behaved (more on the lively side). And plenty of grass.
Would you feed a balancer or not?

agree with wandamare, as long as horse is not thin, elderly or working hard....and working hard is not hacking for an hour or 2 every day...

I said that because a lot of people seem to think that their horses work hard and in fact they are not doing much more than horses usually do on their own in the field... I am an oldie and it was the norm to hack to competitions, quite often at least an hours hack ,do our competing and then hack home, and that wasn't really classed as hard work, it was what we were used to....and the horses coped fine without loads of feed and I don't think balancers had been thought of 50 years ago.

Yes, I'd probably still feed a balancer. Just because the grass is full of calories doesn't mean it's also necessarily full of nutrients. On the other hand, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If the horse looks good and feels well without a balancer, no reason to change anything.
