Has anyone used Feedmark Recharge for a horse with Cushings/EMS/insulin resistance? I am becoming increasingly convinced that my horse is insulin resistant/has EMS and try as I might the weight will not come off her. I wondered whether using Recharge for the recommended two months would help her diet if she really is resistant/has EMS? Any experiences?
 
She is on Formula 4 Feet, which I originally started feeding her to aid her rubbish foot growth but apparently it is also 'balanced in magnesium' and all that garb to help with Cushings etc.
I like the look of the Recharge as I wouldn't feed it for long, and it specifically states it is designed for use alongside a general purpose supplement or balancer (the F4F) so I wouldn't be going overboard with the supplements.
I suppose my hope was that it might overcome whatever it is that is keeping her fat despite the dieting, and help her reach the 600kg mark!
 
I had a laminitic pony that got 'stuck' during his recovery phase. He was on farriers formula, the vet suggested I try extra MG, I wanted to use MagOx but couldn't get it (was a while ago before Mg became popular) so I used CalMag (a very cheap cattle supplement) instead. He turned the corner at that point - it may have been coincidence. If you can't get MagOx add a tablespoon of epsom salts to his feed every day - it's Magnesium Sulphate - not quite as effetive but better than nothing and very cheap.

Hi there I would definately go for a magnesium supplement, as apparently the formula 4 feet supplement does not include enough magnesium... mag ox is good but cal mag is also fine. Beware of epsom salts as long term use can be irritating to the stomach to some horses. Having said that I used epsom salts for a long time with no problems.
MagOX or CalMag will be a lot cheaper than a feedmark supplement

If you start to use something like Cushex or Agnus Castus just be aware that this can skew any results if you have testing for cushings etc done.

Thanks, I have done lots of research and have decided to start with the cheapest magnesium I can find, which is the Equine America Magnitude calmer thingie. £15 for six months so I think it's worth a shot! Off to find some HiFi Lite now!
