The boys are currently fed:
Coolstance Copra Meal
Barley
Alfa A Oil
Salt
Benevit

twice per day at varying rations dependent on work done.

Pooh (4yo TB) has a fantastic coat and is muscling up well; although still has the look of ex-racer about him visible ribs, sloping quarters and prominent hips. This is despite ad-lib hay, approx 1kg Copra/ .5kg Barley and seperate bucket (1kg Alfa A) over 2 feeds. He is a very slow eater, so much so that when he recently had antibiotics for a small puncture wound it was almost painful to wait for him to finish!! He is living out 24/7 in a sheltered field plus field shelter.

He also has good grazing, rugging when weather is inclement and a light workload (hacking for 1-2 hours 4x wk at mainly an active walk with a little trot and short canter if ground is excellent). Has been fully wormed, teeth done, had discussions with vet over gastric ulcers maybe but no indications and two bags of saracen biolife seemed to make no difference.

He is also very very laid back for a baby, never mind a TB; example being his nonchalence to anything scary such as london- edinburgh express train whipping past him during a gale last night out riding; not even a turn of the head!! He could almost be described as lazy at times but I think he is just very chilled out about life; maybe why he was such a useless racehorse?!

Basically, I think I'm just stumped on ideas as to where to go next; he is a bit of a fussy eater and due to the length of time it takes to eat he seems to get bored and has to be encouraged to 'eat up' and finish so increasing volumes of copra isn't going to be ideal I think?

Have looked at rice bran or readymash extra but just need some different input I think! I prefer feeding straights to the pre-mixs and will add in bruised oats, sugarbeet and limestone flour as appropriate to other horses rations as the hunt season gets closer.

Congrats on getting this far, can offer homemade jam tarts and half a cup of cold nescafe to share:D

Any form of oil will put weight on with too much bulk, another alternative would be to add a supplement such as Outshine? You can use D&H build up mix/cubes, but it can make some horses a bit lively ;) :)

Have his teeth been checked? Taking ages to eat would have me getting a dentist out for a look see.
After that I would have him checked for ulcers.
Laid back could equate to "feeling a bit cr@p". Once sorted I bet he gets some Va va voom!

I'm feeding Simple Systems Top Nosh at the moment. G is certainly looking well on it and its the most appetising thing I've come across. He normally leaves a few mouthfuls of whatever I give him but he wolfs this down and licks the bowl clean.
