i rode for the first time in almost a month today, was really excited and looking forward to it but ended up feeling really rubbish.

I has 3 ops on my finger 10days ago and got the all clear from the hospital to ride so thought just a little bit in the school. I could not get him to bend to the left at all (was finger on my left hand that was operated on) and just could not get his back end to work properly. Got off feeling really rubbish and useless.

I know it is mostly to do with my hand as normally he is fantastic, works correctly and is so bendy it is unbelievable. My friends daughter got on him after (she has been riding him whilst i have been off) and he went really nice for her.

It was such a disappointment as i was really looking forward to a nice ride but oh well, that life eh?

Sorry i am rabbiting on just needed to let it off my chest

Ah dont be so hard on yourself

You have only had surgery 10 days ago as you say which is quite a short period of time , and it will take time for your finger to heal , I dont know what your injury was but Im sure it will take time for you to have full strength in it .

Chin up , if you dont suceed try try and try again

im thinking i might try and just go for a poodle around the field tomorrow, it does not involve too much steering and ill just have to go slow or i might not be able to stop (i had some problems when he got a bit excited in canter coming back to trot), you never know my next post my be titled 'still rubbish and in hospital again!'

Maybe the tendons are affected and you need to do physio work on finger/hand...10 days after an op is no time at all...don't be hard on yourself...the riding I am sure will come back as you forget about your finger over time.
Whilst mine was in a brace after an op my horse ended up in hospital and then I moved yards and had to walk her/see to her on box rest (hence broken finger!!)...its perm bent and pretty useless but you soon carry on as normal!!!

the cat bite did penetrate the tedon sheath and i am doing lots of physio, if i don't then might not get flexion back in the finger!!! rode yesterday again and it went alot better even bent it a bit more
