As you might know, Sam has low grade laminits. Waiting for vet on Tuesday to blood test him for glucose and insulin...
Anyway been looking on the Metabolic horse website and reading the stacks of information they have. One of which interesteed me......... Glucosamine can cause Insulin Resistance. Sam has been on Glucosamine since dec 2005 when he damaged his stifle joint.
Feel awful that I may have contributed to his laminits.... Kept wondering how he had got it as fit and on lami approved feed/starvy and leaner than hes ever been in the 7 years Ive had him...

Am i a bad mummy???????? Poor Sam..............

I'd be inclined to discuss the issue with the vet, rather than taking as gospel something you found on a web site and beating yourself up about it.

You obviously care about doing what's best for your horse and that makes you a good mummy in my book!

Too right!

You gave him the glucosamine in good faith to help with a problem he had, many medics give people drugs which can cause other illnesses. Some anti-psychotic medications give people permenant movement disorders, anti-parkinson medication can cause psychotic symptoms, we fed our mare on normal horse food and she nearly pts as she was dangerous when fed on grain or molasses. We do the best we can with the information we have at that time. Please don't give yourself a hard time over this, it may not even be related to his lammi in this instance.

just spoken to Jackie Taylor of Metabollic Horse and feel not such a bad mummy. She feels probably not the cause but could be stopping him improving and could have been the straw that broke the camels back. Also advised to stop the garlic! Kills too many good bugs too!
Mind I stopped it as it contained dextrose about a week ago and today is the first day he had cool feet xx
