Hi all,

I am feeling pretty fed up today. Well that is an understatement! I started riding again about two months ago after a long break, having had another child. My weekly private lessons have been the highlight of my week. We have been working on getting the horse moving well, using his back end and working into a nice round outline. And on my canter... which has gone a bit pear shaped after many years yee-haaing in the countryside. I am working on sitting down and still... anyway I digress.. the point is I feel like everything i have missed so much has clicked into place, and I wish I had started rding again 8 weeks post baby, not 2 years!

So I gutted when the snow meant two weeks lessons were cancelled, and was REALLY looking forward to my lesson yesterday... Twenty min before I was due to leave, I stubbed my toe really badly and I have broken it :( At first I didn't realise and tried to shove my rapidly swelling foot into my boot anyway... my god, i actually HOWLED it hurt so much... so I had to cancel... third week withou riding!

Now the toe is huge and purple and disgusting. Dr said I should hopefully be able to drive in about a week at the earliest but it will take 6 weeks to heal properly. :( So there is a big chance I will miss next week too.

The only thing to cheer me up is thinking to the future. I am hoping to get a share in late April/ early May when my youngest starts nursery and I will have extra time. I was wondering when should I start looking or advertising as wanted. I am guessing I will have a fairly small area that would be suitable as I would need to drop the toddler off at 830 and be back for him at 12 (this will change to 3pm from summer half term- mid june I think). SO it has to be very local. Luckily we are quite rural...

But I am guessing the sort of horse I would be looking to share are super popular and as rare as hen's teeth! 15hh- 16hh (little bit smaller if chunky is fine- i'm 5'5 and about 10/10.5st), been there, done it and got a dozen tshirts, 110% to hack alone, (as I guess not many people will be on the yard mid morning), not silly or spooky, good to school, and happy to pop a round of jumps. Good to catch etc and generally a nice person!

So when do you think I should start looking? I don't want to find something but it be a no go as they are looking for someone to ride several weeks days now, but equally I know that a lot of people will be looking for the sort of horse I am lookin for, and that many people will start looking in the spring...

Hertfordshire. Kings Langley/ Chipperfield/ Sarratt areas. Possibly Rickmasworth/Croxley green area, as the schol is in that direction. But I don't know that area very well, whereas I used to have a share in Chandlers cross so know the hacking around there quite well.

Think having quite a restricted area may be a problem...

I wish you were in my area. Ask around and something will turn up. If all else fails you could book a horsey weekend away that's something great to look forward to.

Look out for a local horsey grp on FB. I always found someone whose horses needed riding when my boys were at nursery. Sometimes I cut things a bit short and would turn up plastered in mud! :p

Now both boys have left home and finished uni I have my own beastie - all good things come to those who wait. Your time will come - promise:D
