Today it is 10 years since William my big coloured 4 year old was PTS and am feeling a bit down.
It feels a bit wierd, normally I dont get this upset, its more a case of a couple of days before or after I sort of remember and feel a bit sad then it passes but this has been building up for a few days. Noone I can talk at work to so hope nobody means if I ramble on about him for a bit.
Think being at Cheshire show and seeing all the coloured might have brought this one, didn't have coloured class at Cheshire when I had William but it would have been something we would have aims for, that and the CHAPs class at HOYS.
He was a gentle giant at 17.3hh, no trouble to deal with, he coped with having a fractured cannon bone and being in a stable for 4months with no other horses around (was only place we could find at time). Think thats one of the reasons we bonded so well.
He was extremely easy to break and had a canter to die for. Hacked out perfectly apart from his aversion to cows. He had won his first dressage and the best gelding at the NW regional CHAPS show just before he was taken ill, he was a proper superstar in the making.
He became poorly on a Saturday morning, seems unbalanced, was falling in during my lesson however we put it down to him being so young. However he then walked into the stable door and seem to need to use the wall to stay up right I decided something was wrong and called the vet out.
Vet was brilliant did everything she could think of, tests etc but we couldn't work out what was wrong. Wont go into great details as too distressing but by late Sunday night he couldn't stand up at all and first thing Monday morning I made the decision to have him put to sleep.
He went to sleep with his head on my lap and was buried in the bottom of the field.
I have been lucky to have had 3 super horses since him including my current B who strangely enough is exactly the same age Will would have been now but Will will always be special to me. In fact that was his show name Will Be (named as everyone thought he 'will be' something special one day, never makeup show names after a boozy afternoon in the pub
)
Sorry for the long winded post, thanks for reading if you got this far. Wasnot my intention to make anyone feel sad, just need to reminise a little.
