Finni's been weaving since I moved him to a stable on the main yard

The stable is much bigger, has rubber matting, a covered verandah and comes with a good sized tack room.

Since moving he's been stressing, box walking and weaving in the mornings.

Have tried giving him hay with breakfast, swedes on strings, snack balls and a mirror.

Today is worming day and watching him look so stressed i've made a decision that he has to go back to where he was before. Old stable now taken but have asked another livery if she will swap with me. She said yes, but i've told her to think about it as i don't want her horse to get stressed too.

Only thing is, the other stable has no matting, a very small amount of storage space and is tucked away on the yard, so when i'm there early and late, i will be on my own.

Purely selfish things to be considering as lets face it Finni must be bl**dy miserable to be reacting the way he is

Feel miserable for making him so unhappy and pee'd off about storage. Perhaps will speak to YO about having somewhere else to store stuff.

Ah hun!
How long has he been in the new box?
When SWUO arrived here, she'd NEVER been stabled in her life before.....but as all her buddies are in at night she couldn't stay out alone,so she's adapted to coming in now,and actually waits at the gate ready in the evening. There were some nights when she'd clearly been box-walking,and it upset me alot at the time, but after a few weeks she settled, and now, more often than not, there's a HUGE SWUO-shaped indentation in the straw where she's been sleeping

Hugs to you and Finn...perhaps give him a couple of days more just to see if he settles?

Sorry to hear bout Finn weaving, sounds like he doesn't want to move to the new box / yard. If you really don't want to move back to the other yard is it worth giving him some Tempralax for a few days? I found it very good to just take the edge of my girls (one of whom is also a Finn!) if they were in stressy situations - seemed to help them while they settled in. How long ago did you move him? I would say that if you have given it a week and he's not settling maybe its not the right box.

sorry not more constructive!

He's been there for quite a while...i've lost track. Maybe since October - getting progressively worse

Think i've come to the point where i've tried lots of things to make it better for him, but am having to admit defeat

Think you are right to move him - Delia was happiest in the busiest area of the yard, where Fleur like the back area where it was quieter.

Think that as it has been since October, he is not happy where he is and unlikely to settle.

As there is a stable where he likes to be, I would swop, even though it is not as nice. When I was at HPF I moved Fleur 3 times before I got a stable she was happy with and changed fields 5 times until she went in with Cairo and was very settled.

Some horses are very particular about where they are stabled.

If Delia didn't like a field - she would jump out and then jump into one she did like

Is he stabled 24/7? If so, how about just keeping the same stable but turning him out for longer? Is a bit weird since your new stable sounds much nicer for him (veranda, bigger, nice matting etc.). Strange horse! Has he left a close friend behind on his old yard?

He goes out for 6 hours during day at mo (then demands to come in!) and for 2 hours twice a day during grass growing season (due to colic).

Is much much busier on the bit of yard he's on now. His best friend lives next door to him in new stable.
