I usually say Zoom is on loan but technically she's not........it is a very bizarre set up! Her owner only uses her for horseball about 5 times a year. She moved away and I said that I would care for her for free, if I could ride her when I wanted. At this point Monty was still in full work and she was just a hack when I wanted to ride out with my novice mum. Now Monty is semi-retired, i do all sorts with Zoom.

Her owner pays for field rent and shoes/vaccs etc and I just pay for feed. I know that I have the best set-up financially,,,,,,basically a free horse. BUT, I hate it when she goes away! Her owner just called and is picking her up for the weekend. She hasn't seen Zoom in 8 months, just sent cheques. My friend always reminds me that she isn't mine and one day she could take her back and I do understand that........it's just easy to forget it and pretend she's mine.

I wish she was my pony, I love her sooooo much! To make matters worse, Monty is sad when she's away too.

Sorry, pointless post but feeling down.

Aw, hugs honey. Horrible, like a member of the family going away for a bit. Owner obviously cares about her though, which is why she has arranged for you to look after her.
Why don't you use the additional time that you'll have with her gone to give her stable / field whatever a really good spring clean, sort her rugs out, wash her numnahs etc so that everything is lovely and sparkly and new for her to return to.
And eat chocolate. Of course.

She does love her horseball......and I am pants at it! I would love to buy her, she is the sweetest poppet but TBH i don't think her owner would sell.
Her owner really enjoys horseball so I guess it is a perfect situation for her as well. She is getting married in the summer and I am secretly hoping she will get sprogged up and not want to play any more, then I can buy Zoomy.

Aw hun - I feel the same sometimes as Paddy is only a loan horse too and I don't think his owner will ever sell. Sounds like your owner may sell in the future if she is getting married and considering children (go and take a pin to their err collection

Still you have a gorgeous ponio and by the sounds of it the owner has it good with you looking after her horse for free - so I think unlikely to want to have Zoom back on a full time basis. I agree with other suggestions, have a little Zoom spring clean and get her some treats for when she returns. I bet she is missing you already and can't wait to be back.
