sorry, its going to be a long one!

since entering the world of horse ownership ive not had the greatest experience, before buying i used to ride various horses for a closed down riding school (not dope on rope kinds) and never had any confidence problems and could jump, canter in feilds, go hacking alone etc with no issues

i didnt get the ideal first horse, had him on trial and he was great then a few weeks later started biting/kicking, this shattered my confidence with horses on the ground and i have only just started trusting horses behinds after 2 years! i was able to swap this horse with someone for a tb who was nice on ground to regain confidence, and managed to school quite well however still never became as confident as i was

currently horse is a cob ive had for a year now, i feel as if ive just bonded with him as initially he played up on the ground, napped etc but ive dealt with it all and he has become great on the ground i just feel as if i am not as far on as i would like. i havnt had that "click" with moment and that i am stuck in a rut. sometimes i look at other horses and wish i had one i could just hop on and do anything with then feel guilty. has anyone else experienced this?

Horse ownership or simply riding horses brings many highs and lows. I have had my super chap for 7 years now and we've been through many ups and downs and its all been a very steep learning curve. I can honestly say it took about 18 months for him to totally trust and "click" with me and vice versa. I've never had my own horse before, so I cannot say whether that was a long time to bond or not. Stick with it and think of different things to do with him. Spend some more with him on the ground, take him for a walk to munch on grass etc etc. I have a complete bond with my horse now and I just love it when he whinnies when he hears my car turn up and comes straight to the gate - love him :0)

thanks yeah we have a good bond on the ground after about a year as he was very bolshy when first got him so did lots of groundwork etc and he now walks over to me in the feild and puts his head in his own halter, i think now it is the ridden side i wish to develop as i love going to see him, looking after him etc just dont seem to click as much when im on his back

I've clicked with both my current horses the moment I sat on them. And my baby at work. I seem to just know and I haven't been wrong yet. I hear so many people saying stick with it but I guess it depends what u want. For a top class competition horse stick with, for fun and confidence I think u know
