Just a quick Grace update for anyone interested:

My normal vet came out this morning and we did another full set of x-rays.
Good news is we're 99% sure that it's just a very nasty abscess. Bad news is the vet thinks we most likely have some pedal bone involvement 😔.
So I've got some antibiotics to give her and we've switched to a sugar-dine poultice now rather than just iodine. Vet either coming back out on Friday or Monday depending on how Grace is 🤞🤞

Grace so far seems very happy tonight, I haven't gotten her out yet but she's weaving at her door and pulling faces at me (that's her normal attitude to life, when she's ill she gets very cuddly so you know somethings wrong 🤣)

Just wanted to say I'm dealing with exactly the same thing right now, down to the possible infected pedal bone. As awful as it is..if it's any consolation you're not alone.

Sending hugs and lots of sympathy to you and Grace

I'm so sorry, I've had one with an infected pedal before and she had a pedal scrape in the end. It's not at all fun and you have my every sympathy. I hope yours gets better soon 💕

so pleased for you, I hope she makes a full recovery very soon.. These things always happen to the best owners! I don't think I could have gone through half of what you have. However, I also have a thoroughbred and completely sympathise, my horse had a work up last year and a year's worth of rehab. So sad watching everyone enjoy their summers whilst I got to walk twice a day for 45mins! Plus the uninsured vet bills that came with it

Sending hugs xx

Today is looking hopeful! We got some decent gunk out on the poultice this morning, right at the point of the frog. So the abscess is currently draining out of 3 holes, one right at the top of the frog on the inside, one at the heel on the inside, and then the new one at the tip today.
She is so much sounder and happier, was even asking to go to the field this morning (my normal vet put her on box rest as soon as she was on the case)!
Vet is hopeful that with a couple more days it should drain out completely and we should be able to get the pedal bone under control without a scrape 🤞🤞
The best bit though; she managed a trot this morning 🥳! I know that sounds so silly but she's been barely able to hobble around in walk for nearly a week now so to see her trotting was fantastic. She's not sound in trot, but still 😅
Very boring video of her trotting for anyone interested https://youtube.com/shorts/uAGkqvS_uOU?feature=share
