Just started yard duties at uni - an hour in the morning, and hour in the afternoon and all day at the weekend. Its easy stuff, I've been filling haynets/checking water/cleaning feed buckets/sweeping for years. But I feel like I'm completely out of my depth!

Probably more to do with the number of people on the yard (approx 15-20), but I'm getting really anxious about it and I know that its daft.

Urgh. Just needed to get it off my chest I think.

Thanks for reading xx

Take a deep breath and remember you know what you're doing :) Maybe it's just the new settings? Are there others on yard duties on the same days?

It's always difficult when you are learning a new routine.... Every one does things differently and getting to know all the new horses and people is always a challenge!

Once you have got to know exactly what you are doing you will be fine! Relax!!! :)

I can sympathise completely. ..I am terrible wimp around people and all of my (limited) confidence/self esteem goes straight out of the window when faced with situations like this. I guess you just have to grit your teeth and get stuck in, you'll be right in no time. Chances are there will be others amongst that lot that feel the same ;)

I'm sure there are others that feel the same! The feelings have thrown me a little, as usually I have a tonne of gumption and then some at new yards (whilst being very low in self esteem, go figure!). Thanks for the advice :)

I know how you feel from working in an event yard in the past and feeling out of depth on really simple things just because you don't know where stuff is, how they do things etc. A week or so later and it was great fun and all on a level footing. Good luck with it.

In the same situation as yourself. Just started an equine course this September at college and i felt that way when i started doing yard duties. It does improve once you settle in and get to know everyone and your environment. Good luck :)
