This is my first time of venturing into the Vetinary forum which is probably good.

Went to get fatboy in today, and under his face between his two cheekbones I discover this

It is all healed up and it looks like new skin (also it didn't hurt him if I touched it) which leaves me wondering why I hadn't noticed it

but what is worrying me is how swollen it is.

Do you think it's infected or just swollen as it's bruised??

Should I get a vet to come out and look at it?

Did you touch the swelling? If so, was it solid or soft (fluidy?) Or did it have a texture a bit like dough (ie if you put your fingers in it would the indentation remain for a few seconds)?

Is it warmer than the rest of the surrounding area?

Keep an eye on it - it does look like he's just caught himself on something however that is the area where Strangles will show itself.

Keep an eye on his temperature and also his nostrils - if his nose starts running or his temperature goes up then call the vet.

Merlin rubbed this exact spot on the top of a fence post once..... the day before a show

It is more of a friction burn than a cut and this is why it looks healed..... but in reality it was never too bad.

You are not a bad owner.... he is a bad horse!!!!

he has been totally fine in himself

on 2nd viewing this evening it has already started going down a little
so this leaves me to believe that he scuffed it on a fence post today
phew!
but yes i am definitely going to keep an eye on it and will repost with how it heals
