I have spent the last 24 hours feeling sick and full of butterflies since new nag arrived. Horse turned into a bit of a loony already and even though I am actually at home and not with said ned I still feel sick and doomladen! Know that hes got to settle in but already having doubts about him, stupid isnt it? Wish I wasnt such a wimpette

I feel the same everytime I buy something life-changing.....car / house / horsebox, but never the horses.

I'm sure the feeling will fade & you'll think it's the best thing you've ever owned.

Dont fret- the first night I had my new lad he was rushing round the field kicking his stomach and tail swishing!! Seeing as old cob never did when we moved i went into OMG he's got colic and was nealry in tears!!! The ever sensible other half turned round and said..... hes come from a heard and is now on his own ( errr yes) ( with neighbours i may add) AND if you wernt so short you could see the nasty black midges attacking him ( well errr i am 5'9 ).
Needless to say I bought a fly rug the next day and life has been peachy since!!

Keep perservering with him and keep a routine. My new lad was unsettled as I do an in by day out by night summer and he had been out 24/ 7 as soon as he realised he got a feed before bed he was happy and now hes settled into and is ready for me at 6.30 am

Good luck xxx

Persevere, he will settle. When I bought my new horse at great expense and over a huge distance. Imported from Germany!! I thought I had made a huge mistake. He was completely different from the horse I rode in Germany. He threw huge wobblers every time I got on him, napped out hacking and tbh I was relieved every time I got him home in one piece. I am not a nervous rider but did feel anxious each time I got on him. A few weeks down the line and he was much more relaxed and a pleasure (mostly) to ride.

Take Rescue Remedy if you need to

!! You need to approach this horse in a confident manner as he will pick up on any nerves and behave badly. So deep breaths and walk out to him in a confident manner! Make sure you are wearing proper boots, gloves and hat if necessary to make yourself feel safe (can you tell I have had to deal with an arsey cob before

??)

Good luck - once he is settled I'm sure he will be so much better.
