Feeling old/Left it too late?

Hello

Very silly question I want to air. I'm nearly 28 (aware I'm not that old - but now feel like a grown up!)

I have been playing around dressage/showjumping/cross country at unaffiliated and riding club level for a couple of years as my horse is now in his (later) teens and is amazing and been teaching me the ropes and giving me experience and confidence that I am now out and competing 1 metre classes.

I also have a youngster that I am now bringing on and hoping will take over from my older horse in a year or so.

My question is a lot of people have recommended I affiliate in all spheres, and I would love to....but am I too old to do so?! I know its a silly question but I am obviously not going to make team GB or anything like that and I am just worried I'll turn up at these shows ten years older than most looking a fool for it being my first time out affiliated!

I want to go out, have fun and improve myself and my horses. This is what affiliated is all about yes?

I know its a silly thread I just dont want to look like I have ideas above my station or look like a fool :(
 
Don't be daft! I know someone who affiliated showjumpting for the first time in her mid forties. She was not the oldest one there either, by far.
 
I bet our olympic team are mostly well into their 40's!! Dont worry in the slightest!!! I'm 29 and have just bought a youngster who I hope to compete with in a couple of years, and it has never crossed my mind that I might be too old into my thirties! It's about having fun with your horse, who cares what other people think?! :)
 
OMG what are you on!!? Your never too old as longs your physically fit and able. I can't see Mary King retiring any time soon and as you said you aren't trying to ride at her level or Mark Todds. I have just rejoined BS after a break of several years, I'm nearly 32 and I certainly don't feel old, there are lots of older people riding at all levels, with life expectancy going up all the time, it would be a very boring (potentially) 70 years you will have if you give up now!! :D
 
Well i'm 29 and I affilliated BD and did BE for the first time last year. I would say I am one of the younger ones!! I love affilliated as it is adult competing in a professional and adult environment.

I find unaffilliated is full of kids and I always feel ancient at unaffilliated!
