Okay, so I've been riding for 16+ years and have never had difficulty in picking up the correct trot diagonal.

I've been doing a heck of a lot of hacking and have only now started going back in to school and am horrified to find I must be on the same diagonal out on hacks. I do try to change it but pony swiftly changes me back!!

I can feel which diagonal I should be on but I cannot for the life of me pick it up. Pony keeps bouncing me onto the left diagonal. The only way I'm managing to change it currently is to to sit for two
It feels very wonky and godawful when I do change it. - Going to get a chiro session for me as I *think* it is me as she had a chiro session a couple of months ago and wasn't too bad at all.

Any tips for helping me with this?? Feel really, bloody stupid and will be changing diagonal on hacks from now on.

Remembering to change diagonals on hacks is a common problem. I find the easiest way is if you have telegraph poles running along the side of the road is to change at every one. As for the school, easiest is what you are doing sitting for 2.

If its the same pony you ride all the time, maybe its him and not you.

My old appaloosa is the only horse that i constantly get the wrong diagonal on. Its very frustrating as Ive been riding for 30 odd years.

I do have back problems though, so maybe he is just showing them up?:D

Kx

I wouldn't feel bad! Most horses tend to be one sided so yours will most probably be encouraging you to sit on a particular diagonal. All you need to do, as omen62 says, is make yourself change diagonal more frequently when you're out hacking. You can sit or rise for two beats to change diagonal
