Ok so I've put post on here previously, my boy was diagnoised back in may/june with arthritic changes in his right hock, arthritis in his right fore, arthritis in his neck and KS in verterbras T15,16,17.

He has had two tildren treatments, cortisone injection in the hock and physio/mctimoney weekly ever since and cortaflex. The vets aren't focusing on the KS as this never shown up on the bone scan and was only picked up on x-ray, they have fused indicating its old and do not want to go the surgery route as he has other problems going on, he was taken to the equine hospital due to looking stiff from behind not problems with his back. The focus is getting him sound as he was orginally 3-4/10 lame.

I've been walking him out most days first starting 10 mins and am now up to about 40mins, some days he is very forward others he lack impulsion.

However I just seem to be going on a rollercoaster, last week I was great because physio was like no he doesn't appear lame although still very stiff around SI region and hind quarters. This week it seems we have taken a step back and she feels he should be showing some sign of improvement around the muscle area. He has very bad muscle wastage now and although he spent 4 days at equine hospital being x-rayed, bone scanned and poked and prodded the physio thinks he has a SI injury also but would of thought this would showed on bone scan, she rechecked his notes last night and advised it had been ruled out but he just isn't responding.

Today I'm looking a more supplements, and treatments and I'm getting lost with it all and just thinking to myself is there anymore point to continuing this. Don't get me wrong I would do anything for him, but I just don't want to see him suffer anymore, I worry myself terribly and am feeling mentally drained right now.

The vet wants to meet me tonight for me to try a new supplement called equitop myoplast to help his muscle development. I'm feeling negative towards this probably due to my mood today. I need to pull myself together and I am being strong and not turning into a blubbering wreck.

I just want something positive to happen so I can grasp onto that and continue the hope I had for him :'(

I don't really know what to say. I just hope you get something to go on soon.

It sounds like so many problems and I don't think anyone would blame you if you decided not to continue

Equitop Myoplast is fabulous stuff - expensive, but really, really works. Put muscle on my mare almost overnight.

I would give it a go I think as perhaps the last resort, and then if that doesn't work think again.

Sympathies - have been there with a mare I eventually gave up on and retired. I know how hard it is when people keep coming up with other ideas to try.

MrsD123 ...thank you ..It is possible for me to take shoes off and turn him away if I thought he would be happy with this, I've watched him intensely over recent weeks/months and I've always known he was a loner in the field and alway put this down to him being at the bottom of the pecking order. I've now come to the conclussion he stays away from the herd not because he is a scared horse or not dominant but possibly because he is in pain and doesn't want the confrontation. I'm just not sure he would be a happy horse and would need bute to keep him field sound.

Bedlam... Thank you... I will give it a shot, I keep telling myself I have to give him the chance he deserves and the agreement with vets we would throw everything we can at him I'm just having a terribly bad day and feeling low. Its my 36 birthday tomorrow and boy I sure don't feeling like celebrating..
