..About loading Darcy on Saturday
crazy.gif

He is usually about a 70% loader, has a bit of a pull and is hesitant but with someone merely standing to the side of him, behind he'll walk on. I tend to load him in his bridle just for the pulling sake etc.

Anywho, last time he was a complete toad, possibly because of rain on the roof of the trailer, wet ramp, no calmer before hand etc and ended up dragging me across the field even with his bridle on, and kicking me in the head - by accident.
So anywho, i'm off out this saturday and i've not loaded him since and i dont really know what to do

Shall i carry on with the bridle? Or a pressure halter etc.. I think i'll be popping a lunge line on him just so i've got a bit of a longer rope to play with etc.

Thanks in advance. Crumpets for reading!

Why not load him now. or tomorrow and have a trial run. Id stick to the bridle with a lunge line instead of reins. Sounds sensible..
Good luck hun.
(having been kicked int he face myself, i know how hard that fear is to get over, your fine with everything else, but the one place or time the kick happened always rears its ugly head)

I don't own my own trailer, but i've hopefully arranged with my friend for them to bring the trailer down before hand so its a)on the farm ready and b) there for me to have a little go . Eep!
I may be really cheeky and ask them to back it onto the yard on the day, just to be safe .

Thanks for the reply

If he's fond of his grub then have a little bit of chaff or some carrots in a bucket just for some encouragement?

Deffinately a lunge line, gloves, hat and loads and loads of patience and confidence...if you are nervous he will pick up on it and make the whole thing a lot harder!
