First signs of increased costs in keeping a horse after this year? Our livery has gone from £25 to £32 and haylage from £10 to £12.25. Shavings from £5 to £5.75. It's going to cost us about an extra £80-£100 per month more for 2 horses. Love the yard and not thinking of moving, but is it the same everywhere? I think we were having it good anyways considering we have a 60x60, newly built 50x30, solarium, wash down and walker - and only 11 boxes. Just a bit of a shock to the bank balance.

Yes it will be difficult as food prices are on the increase too for one reason and another. I am lucky as have my horse on rented land and pretty self sufficient. But things are increasing deffinately. Our local feed place charges £6 per bale of shavings...don't know how much it is now though!

Definitely!! I am walking round with my camera photographing things to put on ebay!!! If OH stands still long enough, he'll be next. It's not helped by the increase in interest rates, the flooding and the stupid weather. Still if we can survive this winter, we can survive anything!

I was a member of the choc club too!!! Have cancelled it some time ago as getting a bit pricey! Shavings and hay are more important than my waistline!

Unfortunately, the F&M will increase prices too. farmers will be needing extra hay/straw/hayledge etc for the animals they should have sold. Leather goods will also rise in price, as my local Saddler knows.

Nearly everything has increased in price, my local suppliers are saying hay and haylage are expected in but they have no idea how much it will be yet ! it depends what they get charged. It will be interesting to see once we get through this winter if the prices ever come back down again ..
