Yes I do see your point as regards the vet. My concern was just that I thought there was an implication in Zippo's post that the OP should or could have done more, but maybe I misunderstood. :)
 
I realise how lucky my mare was. She foaled on a cold morning and foaly fell into the icy cold brook.

I was the next door neighbour who turned out as quick as I could and saved both. The mare had been brought by neighbours very underweight and remained like this all winter.

She foaled a surprise and no one had an idea! In the end after nearly losing the foal to a blood disorder and the people running out of money , I stepped in and brought them both. Foalie is strapping 3 year old and the mare is still with me.

Think it just highlights that even though you can be prepared nature is so cruel. So sorry for you.
 
I'm so very sorry for your loss. :( I would be letting the vet know how I felt about their service, and would certainly find a new one. I had to find a new vet after some terrible experiences when we lost one of our dogs. I vowed that they would never have another cent off me, nor would they be getting their hands on any more of my animals! It is upsetting when the people you count on to help you when your animals are unwell, can be the very ones who let you down when you need them the most. Rest in peace, little foal.
 
Thanks guys for all your comments.Ourselves and our riends who are breeding/ foster mare etc experts strongly believe had the foal been tube fed, she may still be here today. I am hoping Susan does complain to the vets, at minimum the lack of compassion from them, was quite disgusting. A couple of you have asked about the bites on the foal...behind one ear, she had some puncture wounds, so we think a fox may have had a go at her. Once again guys, thanks for your kind words xx
