Iv just moved to a new yard and my boy seems to be a bit more footy but there are more stony areas to cross and go along before getting to tarmac. He is coping well with the use of hoof boots on his fronts and a few times iv had to pop them on his backs to make him more comfortable, how am i best going about getting him used to the new stones? His field has got a mud and stone filled gateway and track into the field and iv noticed his feet have chipped a lot more than they have before.

Iv just moved and haven't as yet got a new farrier but iv been given some numbers of a few on the area to try tomorrow. My old farrier for the past four trims, picked his feet up, looked at them and then put them back down, once or twice filed a little off a few edges and says they are fine, cant take any off other than a tidy but rock solid and carry on.
They now look extremely untidy but he is sound on grass and roads, just not over stones or rough ground.

Where do i go from here? will he ever be sound on the stones or is it a case of booting from now on? How can i help him to cope?
Id really appreciate any advice to make sure im on the right track. :)

Forgot to say, hes a 17 yr old TB, fed on grass, speedibeet and hay (if he comes in) he also has micronised linseed, joint supp, vits and mins with probiotics and biotin added to his feed.

I would get the farrier to bevel his hoof walls, that will help a lot with the chipping and will help to grow out what looks like a bit of flare on his fronts.

I don't think they look that great, I would check that he is getting enough minerals, maybe go for one with high MgO or add some to the diet, try walking in hand or ridden on tarmac to self trim.
See if you can get more concavity on the soles and better angles on the fronts. there seem to be quite a few event lines, is he always like this?
It s difficult to tell from photos , are frogs well developed?
