prince has always had really bad feet but they are much better than they were 2 years ago. but in the summer his feet dont last very long untill they look crap. he gets dry feet so i put hoof moist on them which is on them in the pics but was wondering if there was a supplement i could give him to improve the quality, but... the more his feet grow the worse they get and most supplements incourage foot growth. but when the farrier trims his feet not much needs to come off as theres not alot of growth.

he is due on the 30 july which will be seven weeks from when he was last done. he seems to get "duck feet" if you can see it starting in the photos. it seem to be worse on the outside of the foot and on the 3rd photos you can see it crumbling on the outside.
chocolate if you get this far

If he was mine he would be on NAF profeet, hoof supplement encourage healthier growth, not necessairly more growth.

He would also be in quarter clipped fronts as the hoof need supporting at the heels and the toe needs to be taken back more.

They dont look in too bad condition quality wise but he does need shoeing..

I suggest you have him shod every 5 weeks as apposed to every 7 if im honest.

I swear by the original farriers forumla - it worked for several horses I cared for, but it is a long term measure, you won't see results overnight.

I have frank shod every 6, he cannot go 7 as his go similar to princes and start to splay at the bottom, we tried and it made them significantly worse so stick to 6, for example I noticed his were starting to go last night but he is being shod monday so they won't have the chance to get too bad before shoeing.

I also like the naf pro feet, he is on formula 4 feet at the mo for ease of feeding as he is out 24/7 but they aren't as good as they were in the winter when he was on the pro but not sure if that is just because the dry weather is not helping.

Lou, one thing I think my farrier has found is that when franks feet have been particularly crumbly round the nail holes or a lump comes off it is more difficult to get the quarter clips to sit properly so will single toe clip him for a couple of times then go back to quarters (well I assume that why he does it, I leave it up to him as he does a good job).

i might try this naf profeet and il get him done every six weeks. i just have to make sure i have enough hours at work and dont spend to much

how much is the naf profeet and how long does it last.
i think that is why he doesnt have quarter clips as his fet are partuclarly thin at the bottom and break easy so putting nails in can be and issue finding a decent spot.

I get it from mole but might be a bit out the way for you. £23, can't remember think lasts me 30-35 days (I do eek it out a bit but you can calculate it on the weights as your boy is bigger so will need more, will see if I can check.

link for calculations.

I use their hoof rub instead of hoof moist too,

and use cornecrescine once or twice a week.

Have him shod at 6 weeks, feed any suppliament with biotin in it (i agree with the gelatine idea as well) and try hoof heal, available online for about 10-12 pounds and is the best topical conditioner used three times a week makes a huge difference to the condition of the feet

I have to say if it wasn't for profeet Bri's feet would be horrid! I took him off profeet 6 weeks ago (due to no job) well all I can say is... it's the worst mistake I ever made

He is going back on it no matter what!!!

Chellebean, I am amazed that in such a short space of time, the removal of the supplement has made such a difference, as with feed supplements I thought they promoted better quality growth (so from the top down not bottom up) which takes months to come through.

I am going to be trying profeet I think, once my biotin runs out. The farrier has already recommended hoof heal to me so I will be giving that a go, on top of the cornucrescine and kevin bacon I use. I am also moving towards 4/5 week shoeing cycles over the summer, as it's the 5th and 6th weeks when his feet get bad.

We were too!! The hoof started to flake around the clip

Brian has the problem that he has little to no growth in one hoof, the profeet must give him what he needs to produce the horn, as the farrier noticed the growth when one (and moaned he had none when he came off it). He also puts more weight on one side of the foot and must be to much to handle.
I am just shocked how well it worked tbh and would recommend it to anyone
