If any of you remember I am thinking of taking my TBs shoes off in January ish time. After help from you lovely lot, I have changed his diet and been advised to do another cycle with shoes on till diet has been in place a while. His feet were pretty bad, but could you lot have a look at his post shod feet and see how they are looking this time.
Farrier did say that he had cut loads off, and there was plenty of growth, which I am convinced is the formula for feet which he has been on again for about a month.
Exactly where are they poor etc? Heels look slightly better to me than last set of pics? Also, he does have a little bit of thrush but its not too bad, best treatment techniques for thrush?
General consensus? Thank you :)

Hi

I am one of the farriery lecturers at one of the colleges and it looks to me that your farrier is doing a good job.....plenty of support at the heels...nice short toes.. and taking the trouble to put 2 clips where they are needed.
Going the right way, I would say:)

Farrier is doing fine but if the feet have speeded up their growth don't leave them too long before you take them off or they will go horribly unbalanced. You can see from the length of the frog in the first photo how stretched his toe is - that will shorten up amazingly once you get the shoe off and the point of the pedal bone comes back as the heels build up internally underneath it.

Cheap and easy treatment for thrush - thin bleach, don't get it on your jods. Hydrogen peroxed 3% will also do it.

You still think taking shoes off is best option for these feet?

I wouldnt use bleach myself - kills off good tissue as well as bacteria!

Silvetrasol is very good as are the red horse products.

How do his feet look? Erm, shod! :p

We treated bad thrush really quickly(i mean it!)cleaning feet first completely, drying with towel, purple spray on,keratex hoof hardener in the hole on the heel(farrier advice)twice a week, and using NT-DRY,you can find it on ebay, amazing staff. Our boy been stabled during the treatment, now back to the field24/7,no sign of it!!!Now only clean hooves, dry them and NT-DRY every couple of days around the frog and on the heel.
