Following on from these threads -http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?672268-New-bare-feet-2-weeks-in&p=12554595
My boy had his hinds removed on 11/07 so we are coming up to 5 weeks in. He was doing great at the start but over the past 2 weeks has got a bit footy. He's fine in the school, on the grass and on Tarmac but struggles down the stony lane. I hate it
His feet look sooo short to me! My friend even commented tonight! How do they look to you lot? Anything standing out in particular? TIA

All the right hand pics are from tonight. The left ones are from 2.5weeks ago

Photos don't work for me either.

It should be noted that BF hooves often look shorter than shod ones.

Exercise him on surfaces that he is comfortable on. If you have to go down the stoney lane before he is ready, consider hoof boots.

They definitely don't look too short :) but in the recent solar shot it looks like he might have a bit of thrush, which might account for the footiness.

I guess from those photos that you and your friend are used to seeing shod hooves? They definitely look better now. The hoof with the abscess hole is at a much better angle, the toe was too long before. I have to agree that the frog doesn't look quite right in the sole shot.

Thanks for the replies! How will I treat the thrush? Also what will happen thrush wise in winter when he's always in damp/wet ground? I'm itching to take front off now!

Shoes off, cleantrax the feet and then stay on top of them by spraying with milton twice a day :)

Once the diet is right and the feet are basically good, its much easier to stay on top of. My boy had chronic and long standing thrush when I got him. He also had terrible feet and was fed a crap diet. Its been a bit of a rocky road, but I'm on top of the infection now, and as his feet decontract its easier to keep it at bay.

I got some 6% hydrogen peroxide today as it's the only thing I could get on the day and want to treat any potential thrush ASAP. Do I just apply neat into the sides of the frogs with a syringe?

No, its the thing you use to disinfect babies bottles etc.

Is less than a £1 a bottle. I dilute it and keep it in a spray bottle and spray his feet twice a day at least. I also spray his boots before the go on and when they come off. Seems to be working for us and he had an horrific long standing thrush infection that caused him to be lame in shoes and one of his feet to "collapse" inwards when the shoes came off

Cleantrax was what actually cleared the infection for my boy though. Even though he was treated aggressively with iodine and all sorts at vet hospital and then by me for 3 days when he was home. Cleantrax sorted the infection, I then just needed to stay on top of it :)
