How often do you get your unshod horses feet trimmed.
I'm only saying this because i have an old mare with cracked hooves since spring and she only had the farrier 3 1/2 weeks ago and needs doing again! The other pony, who was done at the same time could also do with being done!
I know the grass is good at the mo, but this is ridiculous!!

My horse is shod every 5 weeks, the farrier trims the pony every other visit. Sometimes he can go every third visit, but I usually regret doing this because his feet start to look tatty. So that mean usually every 10 weeks ?

Every 6 weeks in summer and every 8 weeks in winter. I have the same problem with cracked feet but mine's due to the hard ground (not had rain for 6 weeks now!!

). I just wait for the farrier to come as they're only superficial cracks and nothing to worry about just yet. Hope that helps a little.

Ask your farrier if he can leave you an old rasp and show you how to tidy them in between visits. If you tidy them every week or so or whenever a split or crack appears you'll be able to keep them nicer longer.

Anywhere from every 4 weeks to every 6 weeks. Shes only 17 months old, and her feet grow like nothing on earth, and obviously she doesn't get worked to wear them down - she probably only walks 200 yards on concrete a day.

Abt every 3 months and even then they are never chipped, cracked or even look very long! In fact when they are done you can hardly see any different.
Would love to tell you how we do it but i dont know. I think it must be mainly down to naturaly good feet.

I do mine about every month. Have a look at the EasyCare site - they have an 'owners rasp' which I've not tried but looks good. Your farrier would be able to give you some tips on keeping the feet tidy.
