I am fairly new to riding I have been riding for a year now and I am almost 16 today when out hacking I fell off. It's not my first time falling off I've fallen off twice before but never on a hack. I can't remember everything that happened when I fell I remember we were told (group lesson) to canter and my horse biscuit was going to fast to be comfortable he over took another horse and then I just remember I was on his neck and he kept going he stoped and I was away to try get back on until he started eating grass so I flipped off. I can't rember hitting my head but I keep feeling like someone's squeezing it I took ibuprofen and had a shower cause normally that helps my headaches but it hasn't I keep feeling them every so often and I'm not sure if I should get it checked or not.

Get someone to drive you to A and E straight away. Head injuries cannot be trifled with.

Please do this and also remember your hat may have been damaged so needs replacing before you ride again, the RI should have suggested you went for a check up immediately.

you need to get checked ASAP I am a medic at equestrian events so know that you need to be checked. I can't believe you were not told or sent by the instructor

Also future reference if anyone bangs head please please don't take ibuprofen or asprin, it has blood thinners so that is the last thing anyone with a head injury

defo get yourself checked, last year I had a bad fall out hacking, I still dont remember what happened and didn't think I hit my head, until I started feeling really ill that evening but I still didn't go to A&E!! I slept for 15 hours when I got home and woke up v. confused and dazed.. that is so dangerous, I still regret it :( so yes please please just get yourself checked out!!

Oh my. You are lucky you woke up!
When doing ambulance work I've been called to someone that fell off a ladder and next morning his wife couldn't wake him

Scary stuff head injuries can seem like nothing until it's too late

I remember one fall I had where I fell forward onto my chin straight down from the horse and I knocked myself out for two mins, only coming round where someone had had the time to turn me onto my back and another guy had come over and started calling my name. They sat me down for a few minutes and I needed a drink to get the dust out of my mouth (indoor school) and then they actually put me back on. I realise now it was stupid of them really; my mum who is a nurse couldn't believe they had done that.
Feeling sick and headache after an accident is a sign of a head injury. I hope you're still okay, OP.

Ah,..... But did you go?!

Other symptoms can come on a few days later so excessive tiredness, nausea, headaches go straight to A&E. If you say suspected head injury you will be seen immediately.

I detest going to hospitals having spent far too much time there with various horse related injuries but I hope you did.

And change your hat too as others have said.

I fell on the 29th Sept and was certain I hadn't hit my head. Next day - classic symptoms of concussion. I didn't go to A&E at the time (I know I know, next time it happens I promise I will!) but anyway although I'm now over the concussion, I have effectively got whiplash and have made a mess of my skeletal alignment; neck is all over the place and causing headaches as well as occasional blurred vision so I'm getting treated for that. It wasn't even a hard or fast fall!

Just waiting on my new hat - there wasn't a mark on the old one but better safe than sorry (and I wanted a shiny new one anyway ;))
