Shouldn't have posted on that 'how often do you fall off thread' with my rather smug "about a year and a half ago" answer.

Was dumped today in no uncertain terms by vile chestnut horse I took in the 2'3 as a schooling round. Turns out he is not very fond of fillers. In fact he objected rather violently and at some speed to being asked to jump one

Basically he swung rapidly to the right and I followed at a more lesiurly pace and ended up falling under his feet

Fortunately, I didn't hurt myself too much and got back on, jumped the 'demon' filler and completed the round but I was mortified as it was in front of my boss, my work collegues, some of my clients that I teach plus the lady who wanted me to jump her horse for her in a later class....

he didn't half pick his moment.

TBH, although I could have done WITHOUT the audience, I'm pretty glad it happened. First time since I broke my back and I was able to get straight back on, subconsiously I think I'd forgotten that it was possible to fall off and NOT be carted out of the school on a body board... is extremely reassuring to be reminded that usually only your pride takes a hammering

Self indulgent, but I swear that is the LAST time I'm posting on the 'falling off' threads

hope your back's not sore!
i very carefully avoided the "how long is it since you fell off thread"... i don't let myself think about it at all, so have absolutely no idea...
having had a few impressive smashes myself, i know that it can grow and grow in your mind, you can end up being convinced that any fall will be horrible. it can be a real relief to just hit the deck, get back on, and get it out of the way!
well done waggoning him round after that, the little git.

just a piece of friendly advice - it might be a good idea to go and see a chiropractor, or mc'timoney person after your fall, even though its sounds like it wasn't a crash and burn fall, as i fell off twice, first i was flung in a ditch and the other flung onto the bottom pole of a trakener, (after my friends horse swerved at the last minute) and a few days later i could hardly walk, apparently i had twisted my pelvis, mis aligned my hip joints, my nose was mis aligned and so was 4 ribs!! Its amazing how sensitive the body is. I must have been riding pretty off balance for my horse as well! My mc'timoney friend was just tutting all the time! Ooooops!!

Glad you got back on and finished the course!
