I think George and I must be going through a bad patch

not helped by my recent confidence crisis. On Tuesday night he was quite spooky but I just about managed to work him through it, but last night he just would not listen no matter what I tried and it ended up with him spooking at a terrifying leaf and me falling off

I was quite honestly ready to throw in the towel and just give up completely as I was at the end of my tether

I even texted my instructor to ask her if she would help me sell him

then I burst into the tears at the thought of parting with him.

Then life took one of those funny turns and one of the ladies at the yard who I really like / trust and whose horse is laid off for a yr turned up to ask me something. Would I be interested in her having schooling lessons on George with a trusted instructor once or twice a week! I could have hugged her, so she gains by still being able to ride and keep her hand in, and I gain by George being ridden by someone experienced and confident and having his schooling improved, and George gains by um having to do more work and his mum being happier

So in the space of 20mins I went from rock bottom to someone turning on the light at the end of the tunnel

Sorry this post is a bit rambley and pointless but I wanted to share.

Awe G_G, dont be down, that sounds positive, will you be able to sit in and watch?

I really hope it works out for you, it sounds like the perfect solution. I always think he is such a handsome horse when I see your siggie. I love chestnuts!

So glad your story has a happy ending

It seems to me that this horse-owning malarkey is just one big rollercoaster - with lots of ups and downs but we generally end up with a big smile on our face - I would say that the majority of us on this forum have felt like giving it up at some point just to suddenly find hope again

I think it's great that you have got someone else riding him that you are happy with - hope it all works out for you. Try and watch the lesson.

Glad to hear that you've got a good solution. I'm also battling some confidence issues and it does get easier

im so glad of the happy ending... i suffered a badly broken elbow back in jan and now 6 months later and 2 operations down the line i have a new horse with an attitude but bags of talent and i came a cropper just the other day know exactly how you feel but things can only get better as they say xx

You must have heard my " NOOooooooo" when I saw your post. I know you have been having a really bumpy time with George recently, and this wont have helped BUT what a wonderful outcome, an ideal situation all round.

Owning and riding horses is such a rollercoaster, I have come SO close to giving up over the last few years, but I am still here and so are the horses!

I am sure once the pressure is off you a bit, that you will be able to relax and really enjoy George again, and if he does have a bouncy day, you can just sit back and watch someone else dealing with it.

What a stroke of luck! I sometimes think "someone" up there is planning all this. Your G G looks SO like my lovely boy who died nearly three years ago. Hope you can work through your current difficulties... it'll be worth it in the end.

I really hope that this works out well for you too. I have the confidence of a gnat and have frequent set backs but I know that even if I take one step back for every two that I take forward, that I'll get there in the end because I love horses and have determination and I think the same for you too.

It's so clear how much you adore George and how you are a good owner so hopefully you'll be able to start to enjoy him again when the presure is off a bit. Just don't get out of the habit of riding him.

Good luck x

I agree I believe in fate and like to think someone is 'looking down on us' maybe this chain of events, falls, loss of confidence were leading to this - me realising that I needed proper help with George, so I am hopefull that this is a turning point.

I won't get out of the habit of riding him, I like doing it too much, even if it is just a pootle and a little hack.

i think its a great idea, i do the same with my horse its great to know someone can take the responsibility too - my friend hacks twice a week - long ones too with loads of gallops so he blows off steam and then has a lesson, so when i come to ride i can just enjoy him and not worry if i simply feel like walking for an hour! I keep a diary for him so we can see what hes been doing and also can chat to each other about anything we want to work on. Also great to get a lie in occasionally!Sounds like you need to relax and do some fun stuff again, i have followed your posts and know how attached your are to him, stick with it as he sounds so special. REALLY hope it works out, sure its just a blip!

I'm sorry to hear that you and George had a parting of the ways but very pleased that you seem to have found a good solution to your temporary confidence wobble. I agree with everyone else who says that confidence is a very fragile thing and it grows ever more fragile as you get older. The good thing though is that it CAN be re-built. I was a bit of a wreck after my last horse started to chuck me off for no apparent reason and it took me a while to trust my lovely pony but I do trust her now and I am doing things that I never even thought I was capable of. I am not a good rider and I will never be gung ho about riding but if I can come back from my confidence dip so can you. George is a lovely boy and you obviously adore him. I like reading your posts so please keep 'em coming

!

Never give up G_G, life's too short.
You know you would miss George if he went. What would you spend your time doing anyhow?
Agree, you should watch the lessons, and perhaps join in sometimes.
I'm sure you will get your confidence back, just give it a bit of time.

Oh I hope you are not too sore!!

This sounds like a great solution for you!!

As for the falling of - my RI tells me it's the only way to learn and become a better rider - I've falled off 6 times in he last couple of weeks so I'm now well on my way to becoming a fabulous rider!!!!
