A friend of mine has just rehomed a puppy which apparently is a Patterdale x Fen terrier. We have never heard of a Fen (or possibly Fenland) terrier and google hasn't either, and we are very curious here! Has anyone got one / heard of these? How big are they?

Never heard of them. Sorry if you got all excited then thinking someone knew

Could they be thinking of either a Norfolk or Norwich terrier?

Gah - what a let down

We did wonder about Norfolk or Norwich terriers but neither of them bear any resemblance to the pup at all! The only thing we came up with was one old reference in a random blog that said that Fens are apparently not yet recognised by the Kennel Club yet - we can't find a picture though.

Sorry, as a dog groomer I see and hear about all sorts but that's definitely a new one to me! But then we do hear about some really strange things where the owners just plain old get it wrong. On a thread on a grooming site, there's a bit where a customer told the groomer they had a Lincolnshire Terrier. The groomer had never heard of it and asked what it looked like. It by all rights sounded like / looked like a scruffy cross breed. But when the groomer tried to google it, the only she got was "The Lincolnshire Terrier Club" as in a terrier club based in Lincolnshire.

Funny, I just read THIS thread, did a wee google on Fen/Fenland terrier and the only thing I got was a reference to THIS THREAD.

Ooo could be.... very random.

Splotchy - we thought it might be an accidental breed too....

Whatever he is he sounds like a proper terrierist already and I am hoping to meet him tomorrow!

I *think* I have heard of them, years ago, but I think it is a type, rather than a breed.
Which was what a lot of the working terriers were before they were all fancified and KC recognised.

Well we still don't know what he is but I can tell you one thing - I met him today and he is goooorgeous

I am feeling quite broody (only for a puppy mind you) and Henry is not speaking to me because I abandoned him in favour of an ickle baby doggy
