Has anyone ever used round fence posts with the spike end cut off as walk/trot poles for in hand work
They are a lot cheaper than actually jump poles and an find 1.8m length which would also be easier to store - I'm on livery and no arena

Yes! Half round ones are good too for ones that don’t roll when kicked, but they’re not as tall when laying on the ground

But screw a block of wood at each end and they make great light mobile raised poles!

OP, just head to a timber merchant and see what takes your fancy. Smile sweetly at them and they will prob cut down to size for you too!

I use old square ones too that came out of an old fence so normal fence heigh (not long) on the ground for trot poles etc. - in hand work and practicing accuracy

As square they don't roll when tapped so more forgiving with a youngster who's just learning

Ooo might have to see if I can get square ones as it is for a youngster! To be fair to her, she wouldn’t even bother if they did move 😂

It saves a lot of time resetting distances if the poles are a little forgiving to the odd tap and for babies if they totally mess it up and stand on them they don't end up tripping over themselves.
