Will try to keep as short as possible.
horse has always been a bit of a fence walker I.e bring in time or when weathers bad. However few days ago he let rip and has constantly walked for the past 3 days when ever out ...did 7 hours walking the other day, non stop! Weather was good, grass around the fetlocks, extra hay and haylage given, clean water trough and best friend in field with him...plus others around. Nothing changed in field.
i have no idea why this has started. I really don't want him living in the whole winter, however he is only happy when in his stable and I can't have him fence walking for the whole day....fence line won't take much more, horse will most likely get injured/ is loosing condition and my sanity is slipping away quite rapidly.
past 2 days I couldn't take anymore of it so as soon as I could I just brought him in....however this obviously reinforces the thought that if he fence walks he will get brought in, but at the same time not coming in - even if he walks for hours- doesn't make the slightest bit of difference and he just keeps walking. For the first time ever today he even pulled away from me when I was bringing him up from the field and galloped up to the yard, then just stood there waiting for me to put him in his stable..... If this doesn't say 'I want to be in' I don't know what does!
not being out hasn't changed him when in.....still a perfect gentleman in the stable and very rideable. The only thing that has changed down the fields is that a quite old boy has been put out next to my two about two weeks ago....however new horse arriving and mine fence walking doesn't coincide.
i did put mine back out tonite when everyone else was in and there was no fence walking.... At all, just wandered down to the large field and ate the grass........ Could my boy be feeling threatened from the new boy on the block? My two have been by them selves all summer and perhaps he is feeling protective towards his friend? But it seems odd to start now and not two weeks ago.....
few questions i guess
1. Do you think it's the new horse?
2. Do I just allow him to be in...... He is stressed when out, but chilled in, and I just want a chilled horse!
3. Anyone else think they know why my horse is digging a ww1 trench!?!?!?
sorry it's not that short...log burner and chocolate biscuits on offer!!!!!!
