Fenceman Energiser Dp350 or any electric fencing!

Getting into a bit of a pickle here. I bought a Fenceman DP350 energiser a few years ago as only needed a subtle current to go through fencing so this was ideal being able to run of D size batteries. Fast forward 4 years and it's not been used, but need to use now. Doesn't seem to do anything with new batteries... Did have a red light which flashed then went off so changed batteries and now nothing. What am I doing wrong? It has a black crocodile clip and a red wire with a metal clip....unsure if both should be attached to the fence or just one? Also it says it can be used with a 12v battery if I take the D batteries out. How do I connect it to that?

Sorry completely forgot everything about electric fencing as not used it in a while!

The large black crocodile clip goes on to the negative terminal (-) of a 12 volt leisure battery (You can buy them from Halfords)
The large red crocodile clip goes on to the positive terminal (+) of a 12 volt leisure battery
The flat clip on a red lead goes on to the electric fencing
When you push the earth terminal stake in to the ground soak with water before to get good electric continuarity.
There is also a rocker switch under it (by the electrical terminals) which should be in the on position.
You should hear clicking when switched on.

Thank you. I think where I'm going wrong is that I don't have the red crocodile clip, only the black one and a red metal clip. If I was to use the D batteries would I still need both? Maybe that's why its not working....

I do remember when it did work you turn the on and off button and heard a click.

If you are using a 12Volt leisure battery then you need the red and black crocodile clips connected to the battery.
However if you are using an internal battery then you do not need them but make sure that they are both disconnected as they must not touch each other.
The unit should click if it is working.

If you're using it with D batteries - the red metal clip goes to the fence, and the black crocodile clip goes to your earth stake, which you will need to buy if you don't have one.
If it's not flashing, it probably needs servicing, or replacing

To use it with an external battery - you need to buy a separate battery lead set.

Brilliant. Thanks that's given me a bit more to work with. I had both the red clip and the black crocodile clip on the wire . I fear it may be kaput how ever hoping it should work with a 12v battery. Need to buy extra leads.

You should have an earth clip and a clip to the fence. A friend had this unit and it was far more complicated than it needed to be to switch from D batteries to 12v as I remember. You’d be better with a separate earth stake than the one that comes with it, 1m into the ground is ideal and any old metal rod will do (although they are cheap to buy).

Try it correctly connected before you buy leads for a 12v battery. If it doesn't work off D cell batteries, it isn't going to work off a 12v

I’ve just bought one of these - Here are the instructions if that helps. Using D cell batteries, the stake it came with, that’s your Earth, internally connected. The red clip goes on your fence. That’s all you need. Great little unit!
