What is the best fencing for horses?

I know post and rail is considered the best - but do horses not just rub their backsides on it or chew it?

So what is the best option?
 
I have 4 foot posts with a top and middle rail of electrified tape, and a bottom rail of wood. I'm hoping this will finally stop my awkward boy from just running through the fences... will let you know in a few weeks if it worked!!

I would love full post and rail, but a) I can't afford it, and b) yes, my horses rub on it and break it. Hence a mixture of rails and electric :)
 
If I had the money Id do hippo safety fencing with a hot wire the horses side.

If I had unlimited money Id post and rail but the pretty fancy criss cross one with a hot wire to stop it being chewed and flattened.

Without unlimited money I have 6mm turbo rope.
 
I'm going for electric fencing with plastic poles at the moment, Frankie and Bracken just chew and rub on post and rail ( Bracky has sweet itch) . I've always loved nice wooden fencing but it's not practical for my two at the mo :(
 
A wide brown tape (?) its very thick i cant think what it reminds me of, and is on a reel with a lorry strap type strainer which goes on the end post so it can be easily restrained. Very visable, not nice to eat and wouldnt really work to scratch on.

I have tornado horse netting,with wooden posts,wire at top and electric tape also at top to stop them pushing/ rubbing on it. Imho,it is safer than post and rail,which can cause injury should they go through it,and looks quite good too. They can't get their feet thro it as the holes are too small,and it is about 5' tall so most horses are unlikely to jump it.(have hedges round most of my land too,which also discourages this!). Had mine professionally installed,using 6'6" posts rather than standard 6' ones,which gives it extra strength.
