Why do horses go feral as soon as a few gusts of wind arrive!! Bringing all in for night as need to be in for tomorrow etc and its taken me 3 hours to bring in 5 minins 5 ponies and 4 horses!!!!
Loose ponies, ponies having to be led in chifneys, bucks and squeals and had a skanky tb nearly land on my head!!
Pointless post but if anyone wants 14 nags, free 2 good hoomes I'm sure my boss won't mind!!!

LOL!

Last year I tried putting some hoofoil on my then yearling while she was eating out in the field like I've done many times before. She decided no way! So I thought yes you will. Tried to put headcollar on as I needed to put a light sheet on as well. Nope would not be caught. As if she was raised with zero human contact at all. So I thought right I'll move her friends into the small paddock by the barn. Nope laughed at me and kept galloping all over the place. Then decided to go to the end of the 7 acre field because she didn't need friends. Walking her down was not gonna happen. So I though I will give cool off time. Went to town and got myself a pizza and wine. Came back and still wouldn't come near me. Brought friends into barn. Still little miss all that was like, you don't scare me and I'm happy on my own. It took 2 more hours of me basically just enduring. No chasing. Then all the sudden she just turned around put her head down and let me put the headcollar, sheet, and oil on, as normal. I was mortified and she was like yeah that's right, I am all that! Now it's so funny at how cool calm and collected she was. Then not so much. That is the only blip she's ever had. Been a diamond all her life.

So I feel for you!

Got to say,

If any of mine have ever had the audacity not to catch, I leave them out all night. It is amazing what a night with no rug or dinner does to them. They only do it once. They will be standing at the gate in the morning, desperate to come in!
I refuse to spend my time running after a horse that wont catch.
Bit like putting a hobbit (sorry, I mean child) on the naughty step.

If you dont play nicely, you dont play at all.

This happens to me regularly I have to lead my 2 horses down a lane past a little coppice from their winter turnout to their stables. 18hh and a 16.3hh they totally freak out if there is any noise or wind. Had about 5 near misses this winter and broke free too so i quickly turn them back into paddick again as there is a main road close by free. and i wouldn't dream of trying it until they calmed again. Try getting them in whilst it is not windy and still light. Tit bits and talking help too.

Luckily the yard is 60 acres but no escape route onto the roads or anything! So naughty!! Dreading turning them back out again!!!

Exactly this, I've done it too and it does work! No way will I chase a horse round a field, they have four legs, I have only two. I did exactly this to a Cob gelding and a Shetland a couple of years ago, I wanted them all in because really bad weather was forecast, the two mares came in no problem, the other two decided to play catch me if you can so I left them out. No rugs, no evening feed, guess who was stood at the gate the next morning? I've also done it when calling everyone in for a feed, if they don't come they don't get, after 5 minutes they are sheepishly over and in of their own accord. :D

I've got to say this but it's exactly what i do , my 9 yr mare was like that and I left her a night without rug needless to say she came running the next morning
My 4 yr well he turns into a stroppy teenager if he doesn't get his dinner or rug , but I think he is finally learning lol

My little section A,oh she's a madam sometimes. One day she will let you catch her, another day,its emmmmm don't you dare come near me and her ears go flat back. lol
Cobblet is ok to catch but won't let you put a headcollar on him in the field, and when in the cowshed he makes a song and dance of it for about 5 mins, eventually gives in to me.Both of them hate strangers!!

:D:D:D

Mine stayed out alone last time she wouldn't come in. Walked in like a lamb the next night!

She's now out 24/7 unruged so not the end of the world if she doesn't come in, but if she ignores me I ignore her... she can't stand that!
