Is it posionous to horses? I read on one site that it is and another that it isn't. Confused & a bit embarrassed that I don't know already!

It is at certain stages of growth. I think it is when it is newly shooting it is poisonous. The field we take our hay off has quite a bit of bracken growing round the edge which gets in to the bales, the ponies always pick it out and refuse to eat it, but will try and get at it when its growing. Neighbours horse is always eating it without appearing to suffer any effects.

Do you mean bracken? Yes it is poisonous but normally they have to eat large amounts for it to affect them.

Poisonous in all stages. Similar effect as ragwort. Remove all trace of it from your fields.
