Our horses were supposed to move into the summer fields this week but it has been put back because the fields have been fertilised and need rain to water in. Does anyone know if its safe to use fields without rain? I was told that the fertiliser can cause burns if left unwatered. Any advice would be helpful.

I think it depends on what fertilsier has been used as to whether it is safe...but given how damn delicate these horses tummy's can be at times... I would not risk it until it has been rained in correctly.

We are in the same position! We fertilised our fields 3 weeks ago and it hasn't rained since - if you look closely, you can still see the white balls of fertiliseer just lying there. We certainly won't risk it until it has rained and the fertiliser has all been washed in. Someone posted recently (?Henryhorn i think) about a foal being killed by being turned out on a field that had just been fertilised.
